Instructor Biography


Misha Cohen OMD, LAc.

Misha Cohen is a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and the Clinical Director of Chicken Soup Chinese Medicine in San Francisco, California where she has been practicing traditional Asian medicine for over 33 years. She is an internationally recognized senior teacher and leading expert in Chinese medicine, training Oriental medicine practitioners and medical doctors in the U.S. and Europe. She brings a unique perspective, combining an understanding of traditional Asian medicine with that of Western medicine, to such topics as HIV, hepatitis, HPV-related disorders, diabetes, chronic viral illness, cancer support, fibromyalgia, and gynecological issues. She has been invited several times by the Chinese government to present her treatment programs.

After attending Oberlin College, Misha Cohen was trained in acupuncture at Lincoln Hospital Detox Program in the South Bronx under the auspices of the Quebec School of Acupuncture. After moving to California, she continued her studies in Chinese traditional medicine, acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine at the San Francisco College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. She received her doctorate in gynecology from SFCAOM in 1987.

Misha is the author of several books and articles, including "The Chinese Way to Healing: Many Paths to Wholeness", "The HIV Wellness Sourcebook: An East/West Guide to Living Well with HIV/AIDS and Related Conditions", and "The Hepatitis C Help Book".

Involved in acupuncture and herbal medicine research for many years, Dr. Cohen is Executive Director of the MRCE Foundation (Misha Ruth Cohen Education Foundation) a non-profit educational organization focusing on the integration of Western and Eastern medicine in the treatment of complex health issues. She is also the Research Chairperson of Quan Yin Healing Arts Center, and Research Specialist of Integrative Medicine at the University of California Institute for Health and Aging, all in San Francisco. Currently, she is the leading investigator on a University of California research team for a Phase II study of a topical herbal cream in treatment of HPV-related anal neoplasia to prevent anal cancer, and the lead investigator on an herbal and acupuncture research team with MDs at California Pacific Medical Center in complementary treatment for patients with hepatitis C.
