Seminar Description:

The classical specialty of waike focuses on the individual's external terrain and is derived directly from the Suwen (Simple Questions) theory of the progression of perverse wind. Basic waike strategy includes the treatment of orthopedics and neurology and is designed to stimulate the embodied spirit to expel external pathogenic factors, rather than simply manage their expression and treat symptoms. This approach focuses on facilitating the intrinsic movement of wei qi, which can sometimes lead to a "healing event"(or "healing crises") in the process of resolution.

In some cases, external disorders affecting the musculoskeletal system originate as internal factors, or begin in the exterior and later become internalized. Modifications for these variations will also be discussed.

Built on this deeper understanding of waike pathology, the seminar will address the practical and effective application of internal herb formulas for acute, sub-acute, and chronic stages of problems such as tendonitis, bursitis, and disc lesions, as well as the complications that often accompany these situations, such as radiculopathy or entrapment. Waike strategies allow practitioners to expand the horizons of the usual musculoskeletal treatment to address a wide variety of challenging degenerative and neurological conditions such as arthritis, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson's.

In order to help bridge strategies with clinical reality, we will bring several real patients into the class and demonstrate the process of diagnosis and writing herbal prescriptions for each.
