Seminar Description:
In his first North American teaching tour in many years, Jeremy Ross brings over 35 years of experience and his own unique approach to teaching herbal medicine. Jeremy offers a new system that successfully integrates the paradigms of Chinese medicine, Western herbal tradition, and phytopharmacological research. His seminars help students develop concise diagnosis and treatment, grounding complex ideas into practical clinical experience, and facilitating both a deep understanding of individual herbs and the sophisticated use of herb combinations that are effective and safe.
In this 3-day course, Jeremy uses his system of Combining Western Herbs and Chinese Medicine to teach a series of effective herb combinations for treating digestive disorders and shows how to build new combinations to fit the specific needs of individual patients. The optional herb tasting experience during the course offers students the direct experience of temperature, directional energy, and the physical effects of these remedies.
Common clinical disorders such as the following will be addressed:
Digestive weakness
Weight loss and loss of appetite
Nausea and vomiting
Gastritis and gastric ulcer
Weight gain and obesity
Food intolerances and allergies
Colic and irritable bowel syndrome
Colitis
Diarrhea and dysentery
Constipation
Treating side effects of medications causing gastrointestinal issues
Who Is This Course Designed For?
Jeremy's seminars are primarily focused on using Western herbs according to his system of the integration of herbs, Chinese medicine principles, and modern pharmacology. Please note that although some Chinese herbs are taught, this seminar is not about combining Western and Chinese herbs, but primarily about using Western herbs within the Chinese medicine framework. Attendees should have a basic understanding of Chinese medicine.
The following health care providers would benefit from this course:
- Acupuncture practitioners (no prior training in Western or Chinese herbs is necessary)
- Practitioners of Chinese herb medicine who wish to incorporate Western herbs into their practice
- Doctors, naturopaths, and Western phytotherapists with basic knowledge of Chinese medicine principles, including familiarity with Chinese organ syndromes
Why Western Herbs?
Western herbs represent a treasure-trove of effective traditional medicine and the collected and refined experience of practitioners for over 2,500 years. The advantages of using Western herbs as practitioners in the West include their availability, safety and powerful effectiveness. Western herbs:
- Are more readily available than herbs imported from China
- Can often be gathered locally in the wild, or grown domestically
- May be observed in their growing habits and throughout the seasonal changes
- Are often native to the local environment and ecosystem
- Offer the quality control and safety that comes with using local suppliers
Course Features
- Unique integration of 2,500 years of Western herbal tradition, Chinese herbal medicine, and modern research data from pharmacological and clinical research.
- New system of diagnosis to help practitioners form precise evaluations that help clarify complex cases and the optimal choice of herbs for treatment.
- Special emphasis on herb combinations that are particularly effective in the treatment of common Western disorders.
- Herb tasting (voluntary) is one of the experiential ways that practitioners learn about the energetic effects of herbs during the course.
- Clinical training during the courses includes the diagnosis and herbal prescribing for real patients.
- Application and clinical relevance is emphasized in the trainings, so that practitioners can leave with the skills and confidence to start immediate prescribing in their practice.
